Terms of service
Version 2 ยท effective 31 August 2026
This is an older version, kept for reference. Read the current version.
In plain words
You subscribe for $10 a month to use How-To Maker. Credits for managed AI are bought separately, never expire, and are not refundable. Your videos and transcripts stay on your machine.
DRAFT: structure and required clauses only. This needs a human legal review pass before launch.
1. Who we are
How-To Maker is made and sold by Aztec Platforms, LLC. These terms are an agreement between you and Aztec Platforms, LLC covering the How-To Maker application and the howtomaker.com website.
2. The subscription
How-To Maker is licensed, not sold. A subscription of $10 per month grants one person the right to install and use How-To Maker on up to 5 machines at once, for personal or commercial work. The subscription may be cancelled at any time, and access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.
3. The trial
A new account receives a 7 day trial with $3 of managed inference credit, without a card. No card is held, so nothing converts to a paid subscription on its own. When the trial ends, the account becomes read-only until a subscription starts.
Any of that $3 you have not spent when the trial ends is not lost. It stays on your account and becomes available to spend again when a subscription starts. It does not expire.
4. What happens if your subscription lapses
If your subscription is cancelled or your payment fails and is not recovered, your account becomes read-only. You may continue to open and export every tutorial you have already made, indefinitely. You may not create or edit tutorials until the subscription resumes. Your work is stored on your own machine and is never held or withheld by us.
5. Managed inference and credits
Managed inference is billed against a prepaid credit balance held in your account. Credits are bought in packs, never expire, and are not refundable. Charges are calculated from the usage reported by the model provider for each call and recorded against your account.
You may instead supply your own model provider API key, or run local models, in which case no credit is consumed and no call reaches our servers.
6. Acceptable use
You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute How-To Maker, reverse engineer it except where law permits, or use it to violate the recording consent laws that apply where you are. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required before recording other people. The full list is in the acceptable use policy.
7. Your content
You own the videos, transcripts and tutorials you make. We claim no rights over them. See the privacy policy for what does and does not leave your machine.
8. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. Each revision is published as a new numbered version with an effective date, and previous versions remain readable on this site. Where a revision materially changes your obligations, you will be asked to accept the new version before continuing to use the application.
9. Contact
Every route to a human goes through the contact form.
