Terms of service
Version 3 ยท effective 3 September 2026
In plain words
You subscribe for $10 a month to use How-To Maker. Cloud credit is bought separately, is never granted by the subscription, never expires, and is not refundable. Your recordings stay on your machine.
1. Who we are
How-To Maker is made and sold by Aztec Platforms, LLC. These terms are an agreement between you and Aztec Platforms, LLC covering the How-To Maker application and the howtomaker.com website.
2. The subscription
How-To Maker is licensed, not sold. A subscription of $10 per month grants one person the right to install and use How-To Maker on up to 5 machines at once, for personal or commercial work. The subscription may be cancelled at any time, and access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.
The subscription buys the application. It does not carry any cloud credit with it, at the start or on any renewal. Credit is a separate purchase, described in section 5.
3. The trial
A new account gets a 7 day trial with $3 of cloud credit, without a card. One trial per account. The 7 days start, and the $3 arrives, when you first sign in from the application rather than when you register on this site, so none of the trial is spent before you have the software. No card is held, so nothing converts to a paid subscription on its own. When the trial ends, the account becomes read-only until a subscription starts.
Any of that $3 you have not spent when the trial ends is not lost. It stays on your account and becomes available to spend again when a subscription starts. It does not expire.
4. What happens if your subscription lapses
If your subscription is cancelled or your payment fails and is not recovered, your account becomes read-only. You may continue to open and export every tutorial you have already made, indefinitely. You may not create or edit tutorials until the subscription resumes. Your work is stored on your own machine and is never held or withheld by us.
Credit you have already bought is held, not taken and not expired. It is not spendable while the account is read-only, because the features that spend it are the ones that stop, and it becomes spendable again the moment a subscription starts.
5. Cloud credit and the services it pays for
Two of the jobs in the application, turning your video into a transcript and writing your tutorial, are done by a model. You choose how each one runs: on our own cloud service, on your own account with a service you chose, or on a model running on your own machine. Only our own cloud service is charged for by us.
Our cloud service is billed against a prepaid credit balance on your account:
- Credit is bought in amounts of $5 and $10, or any whole number of dollars from $5 to $500.
- Credit never expires and is not refundable. The refund policy is the detail of that.
- A call is authorised before it starts against the most it could cost, and is refused if your balance cannot cover that. You will not finish a piece of work owing money you did not agree to spend.
- What you are charged comes from the usage the provider reports for the call, at our published rate. A call that reports no usage is not charged at all.
If you use your own API key or a model on your own machine instead, no credit is spent and no call reaches our servers. An empty balance is a limit on our cloud service and on nothing else.
6. What leaves your machine
The video file you record is never sent over a network. What the two model jobs do send, and to whom, depends on the choice described in section 5, and the application states what an action will send before you take it. The privacy policy is the full account of it and is part of this agreement.
7. Acceptable use
You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute How-To Maker, reverse engineer it except where law permits, or use it to violate the recording consent laws that apply where you are. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required before recording other people, including consent covering a recording being sent to a service to be transcribed. The full list is in the acceptable use policy.
8. Your content
You own the videos, transcripts and tutorials you make. We claim no rights over them, and we do not use them to train models.
9. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. Each revision is published as a new numbered version with an effective date, and previous versions remain readable on this site. Where a revision materially changes your obligations, you will be asked to accept the new version before continuing to use the application.
10. Contact
Every route to a human goes through the contact form.
