In plain words
Your videos, audio and transcripts never leave your machine. Only the managed AI path sends text, and only the text of the transcript and document you are working on.

1. The short version
How-To Maker transcribes on your own machine. Video, audio and transcripts are never uploaded. The only feature that sends anything is managed inference, and it sends text.
2. What never leaves your machine
- Source video files.
- Extracted audio.
- Transcripts produced by the local transcription model.
- Every project file, image and export.
Transcription runs locally using a model downloaded to your machine. There is no server that could receive your recordings, because none is involved.
3. What is sent, and only when you use managed inference
If you choose the managed inference path, the application sends the text of the transcript and the text of the document being worked on to our server, which relays it to the model provider. It does not send video, audio, or image data.
If you supply your own provider API key, or run a local model, nothing is sent to us at all.
Every network operation in the application declares which classes of data it sends, and the interface shows you that declaration before you take the action.
4. What we store about your account
- Your email address, to identify your account.
- Your subscription status and credit balance.
- A record of each managed inference call: the model used, token counts, and the amount charged. We do not store the text of the request or the response.
- A salted hash of a machine identifier for each device you activate. We never store a raw machine identifier.
- Which version of each legal document you accepted, and when.
5. Who else processes your data
- Supabase, for authentication and database hosting.
- Cloudflare, for website and API hosting.
- Stripe, for payments. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us.
- The model provider, for managed inference calls only.
6. Retention and deletion
You may delete your account through the contact form. Deletion removes your profile, entitlement, devices and usage history. Records we are required to keep for tax or accounting purposes are retained for as long as the law requires.
7. Changes
Each revision is published as a new numbered version with an effective date, and previous versions remain readable on this site.
